Killed in Action
Gerald Wallace Baker, age 26, water tender first class, son of Mr & Mrs Lewis N Baker of near Atlanta has been killed in action in the Pacific, according to word from the Navy department.
The action in which he lost his life, is beleived to have occurred off Okinawa as his parents had received word that he had been aboard a flagship operating in the Ryukyu Islands.
Gerald Baker and his brother Friend, enlisted in the navy in 1939. They were together until last year when they were separated by a navy order, transferring brothers to different ships. Friend Baker also has the ranking of water tender first class and the two brothers recently met for a brief visit in a Pacific port.
Gerald Baker was born Aug 23 1918 near Atlanta. Surviving are his parents, a brother and three sisters: Mrs Phillip Coons, Warner, Robbins Co, GA; Mrs Myron Walters, Armington and Frances Baker, Macon, GA.
