James S. Davis Dead
Senior Member of One of Oldest Business Firms in Washington
Mr. James S. Davis of the firm of James Y. Davis' Sons, 1201 Pennsylvania Avenue Northwest died suddenly last evening at 6:45 o'clock at his residence, 1333 Roanoke Street Northwest. His death was due to angina pectoris. Mr. Davis had a slight attack Thursday evening and another yesterday morning, but recovered sufficiently to go down to his place of business. He was seized by another attack yesterday morning at his store about 11 o'clock and Drs. L.B. Swormstedt and T.L. Macdonald were summoned there to attend him. Mr. Davis rallied sufficiently to be taken home in a carriage, but he had another attack between 6 and 7 o'clock in the evening and died before the doctors arrived.

Mr. Davis had long been prominently identified with business life in this city. He was born here on June 18, 1842 and in 1871 with his brother, S.T. Davis, succeeded his father, James Y. Davis, in the hatters' business which was first established in 1830 and is one of the oldest business firms in this city. The present firm name is James Y. Davis' Sons and the deceased was its senior member. Mr. Davis was a member of the Eureka Chapter and the Acacia Lodge of Masons and also a member of the Washington Commandery, Knights Templars.

Mr. Davis is survived by a widow, Mrs. Kate Ireland Davis, a son, Ireland Davis who is now attending Cornell University and two daughters, Misses Mamie and Faith Davis.

The funeral which will be private will be held at the residence on Monday morning at 11 o'clock. The services will be conducted by Rev. J.G. Butler of the Luther Place Memorial Church. The interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
