MIDDLETON - Theresa Marie (Spahn) Acker, age 74, died on Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2006, at St. Mary's Hospital, Madison. She was born on Sept. 12, 1932, in Ashton, the daughter of Joseph and Josephine (Wagner) Spahn. Theresa attended St. Peter's grade school and graduated from Middleton High School in 1951.
On Sept. 9, 1951, she married Vincent Acker at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Ashton. Shortly thereafter, they made their home in Middleton. Theresa was a tireless mother to eight children who always kept her busy. Perhaps this is why she never slowed down in her retirement. Theresa enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and took several memorable trips abroad.
Her passion in the last 20 years was quilting. She enjoyed her annual trip to Paducah and cherished the friendship of her fellow quilters in the Mad City Quilters. In addition, Theresa was very active at St. Bernard's Catholic Church, Middleton, the past 50 years; serving as a lay minister and a member of the ladies auxiliary. She was a volunteer at St. Mary's Care Center and helped with local Red Cross blood drives.
She was a member of the Middleton Historical Society, Middleton Opti-Mrs. Service Club, and the Tuesday and Wednesday women's golf league of the Middleton Women's Golf Association. In addition, she enjoyed the company of friends at the Village Green and Sport Bowl and several card clubs.
Theresa is survived by seven children, Chuck (Kathy) Acker of Richland Center, Ron "Bakken" (Cathy) Acker of Arena, Karen Acker of La Crosse, Patty (Mike) Dean of Middleton, Steve (Amondee) Acker of Madison, Heidi (Ricky) Yelk of Arlington, and Brad Acker of Boise, Idaho; a son-in-law, Brad Boquet of Madison; grandchildren, Shawn (Becky) Pourchot, Caleb Pourchot (Heidi Habeger), Heather (Tony) Jacobson, T.J. Brandt, Deambra Plumlee, Diana, Joe, and Darcy Dean, and Cy Yelk; and great-grandchildren, Kestrel Pourchot and Antonio Jacobson, and the Pourchot twins, on the way. She is further survived by a brother, Harold (Betty) Spahn of Ashton; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bertha Spahn of Waunakee, Frankie Niesen of Cross Plains, Barb (Walter) Brouner of Washington, Mary Ann (Jim) Adler, Laverne "Hunch" (Marilyn) Acker, LeRoy (Marcie) Acker, all of Middleton, Doris (Ray) Maier of Cross Plains, Russell Acker of Texas, Tony (Kristi) Acker of Madison, and Sue (Steve) Statz of Waunakee; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent Acker, in 1986; her daughter, Eileen Boquet in 1993; her parents; brothers, Leonard and Melvin Spahn; and her sister, Rosina Niesen.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. BERNARD'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 7450 University Ave., Middleton, at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 1, 2006, with Monsignor Douglas Dushack presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
