French vice-admiral, son of Pierre-Theodore Alphonse Amet, a merchant, and his wife, Marie Anne Stephanie Bletry. He served in the French National and Imperial Navy throughout the second half of the nineteenth century and ended his career at the rank of Vice-Admiral, decorated with the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour and command of the Mediterranean Squadron.
