The Hemphill family bible record at the Historical Society of Delaware shows that the children of William Hemphill, who md. Elizabeth Allison on May 22, 1770, were: Sarah Hemphill, b. April 8, 1771, d. April 29, 1776; James Hemphill, b. Aug. 4, 1774, d. April 4, 1833; Elizabeth Hemphill, b. May 20, 1777, d. Sept 21, 1787; Mary Hemphill, b. Jan. 3, 1779, d. Feb. 22, 1834; William Hemphill, b. June 18, 1783, d. Aug 22, 1783; and John Hemphill, b. Dec 8, 1784. Only James, Mary, and John lived to maturity. Mary married Morgan Jones and John married Maria Girard. I think James never married. Since William was born in 1783 and died at the age of 1 year, he could not be the William Hemphill who marred Jane McIntyre in 1795.
