Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 23, 2008 at the Almlie Funeral Home in Tracy for Evelyn M. Shoeman of Tracy.
Evelyn M. Shoeman was born May 23, 1912 to Dr. Don and Vera (Edwards) Casselman in Tracy, MN. She was baptized and confirmed in the Tracy Presbyterian Church and attended Tracy Public Schools, graduating from Tracy High School in 1929. She then attended Mankato State Teachers College and the University of Minnesota, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education in 1933.
On April 17, 1937 Evelyn married Lawrence Shoeman in Tracy, where they made their home for a short time. After her husband's return from military service they then moved to Tucson, AZ where they lived for eleven years. During that time Evelyn attended graduate school at the University of Arizona in Library Science. They returned to Tracy in the late 1950's so that Evelyn could care for her mother, who was paralyzed in an accident.
Over the years Evelyn was very active in her church, as a life long member of the Tracy Presbyterian Church, where she was a Sunday School Teacher and a member of the Churches Women's Association. She also was active in her community, as a Girl Scout Leader, member of the Order of the Eastern Star-Virginia Chapter, member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), and volunteered at various libraries in the Tracy area. Evelyn enjoyed antique collecting and spending time with her family.
In December of 2006 Evelyn became a resident of the Prairie View Healthcare Center in Tracy, where she died Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at the age of 95.
Evelyn is survived by her one son, Don (Janice) Shoeman of Tracy, MN; one daughter, Kathleen (Bill) Ivatts of Sharon, MA; two granddaughters, Anna (Alberto) Amezcua and Laura (Paul) Brinkman; three great grandchildren, Rachel Evelyn and Rebekah Rose Brinkman and Rudolfo J. Amezcua; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Her husband, Lawrence, one infant daughter, parents, and one sister, Genevieve Derrick preceded her in death.
Interment will be in the Spring of 2008 at the Tracy City Cemetery. The Almlie Funeral Home of Tracy handled the arrangements. Online condolences may be placed at www.almliefh.com
