Cluff Lowe Gibson, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully at his home Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, surrounded by family. Cluff was born in Franklin, Idaho, on Oct. 9, 1909, to Harvey and Lucy Gibson. He was the fourth of 11 children and was raised on the family farm in Grace, Idaho. Cluff married Jane Miles on Friday, Sept. 13, 1940, in Tyhee, Idaho.
They lived five years on land they rented on the Fort Hall Indian Reservation. In 1945 they moved to their farm in Winder, Idaho. They had seven children. Cluff was a wonderful father and grandfather and a great friend to all who knew him. He loved children, and they loved him. He was a talented storyteller and children, grandchildren, friends and neighbors loved to hear the many adventurous stories of his life. He had an amazing memory, a wonderful sense of humor and made people feel loved.
He is survived by his seven children, Roxie Winn of Salt Lake City; Echo (Bruce) Stocks of Preston, Idaho; Chet (Kathy) Gibson, of West Jordan; Mira (Stephen) Thatcher, of Logan; Kim Gibson, Winder, Idaho; Jill (Glen) Jamison, of Winder, Idaho; and Tyona (Shawn) Atkinson, of Franklin, Idaho. He is also survived by 27 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren; and by two sisters, Hattie Lampshire, of Ogden; and Opal (Frank) Smith, of Pocatello, Idaho. His wife and best friend passed away in March of 1993. He was also preceded in death by son-in-law Richard Hull; son-in-law Bruce Stocks; grandsons Jeffrey Stocks and Curtis Stocks; baby sister Etta; baby brother Chet; and brothers Grant, State, Gean, Bud, Homer, and Don.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 10, at noon in the Winder Ward Church. A viewing will be held Monday, Nov. 9 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home, 109 East Oneida, in Preston, and Tuesday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Winder Church. Cluff was so grateful for the love and support shown to him for his recently celebrated 100th birthday. He was a wonderful Dad, we miss him so much.
