CIVIL WAR VETERAN. SERVED WITH CO C 9TH PA CAVALRY OCT 1861 TO DEC 1864
The son of William & Isabella (Stewart) Lightner, in 1860 he was a farmer living in Tyrone Township, Perry County, Pennsylvania. He stood 5' 10" tall and had light hair and blue eyes.
A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Landisburg, Perry County, September 4, 1861, mustered into federal service at Camp Cameron, Washington DC, October 11 as a private with Co. C, 9th Pennsylvania Cavalry (92nd Pa), promoted to corporal, date unknown, and honorably discharged at term's end December 24, 1864.
He married Caroline E. "Carrie" Quinn ca. 1866 and fathered Jennie Margaret (b. @1867), Minnie Mary (b. 05/15/68 - married Newton R. Myers), Elizabeth B. (b. @1871), Ella D. (b. @1873), John Irvin (b. 08/08/75), and William H. (b. 03/12/78). In 1890, he lived in Frankford Township, Cumberland County.
