Marlys Ann Thompson of Finley, North Dakota, passed away after fighting a long and courageous battle with lung cancer on October 26, 2009 at Mahnomen, Minnesota.
Marlys Deschene was born July 23, 1940, the daughter of Onesime and Beatrice (Bauman) Deschene, at Crookston, Minnesota. She grew up and attended school in Argyle, Minnesota.
On February 24, 1959, she was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Robert Thompson in Fort Hood, Texas where Robert was stationed in the Army. Upon Robert's discharge from the Army, they lived in various places until they settled in Finley in 1967, where they have resided ever since. In recent years they have been spending their winters in Lake Havasu City, Arizona.
Marlys had various hobbies that kept her busy. Bowling, crafting and crocheting are a few. Her favorite pastime was spending time with her family. Marlys was a member of St. Olaf's Catholic Church, Finley ND.
Marlys is survived by her husband of 50 years, Robert; daughters, Renee Norgaard of Finley, Julie Haaland of Finley, Kimberly (Jerry) Hashbarger of Hope, ND, and Sherry (Jeff) Jacobson of Finley; brothers, Roger (Donna) Deschene of Lynchburg, VA, Kenneth (Marilyn) Deschene of Wisconsin Dells, WI, and Glen (Bernice) Deschene of Wisconsin Dells, WI; 12 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren and one step-greatgrandson.
Marlys was preceded in death by her parents, Bea and Ole Deschene and a granddaughter, Kelley.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 31, 2009, at 10:30 in the Finley Lutheran Church, Finley, ND.
Visitation will be held Friday from 5:00 till 7:00 in St. Olaf Catholic Church in Finley, ND and one hour before services in the Finley Lutheran Church.
A Prayer Service will be held Friday at 7:00 in St. Olaf Catholic Church.
Interment will be in the Finley Cemetery, Finley, ND.
