He was the son of John and Catherine Moser/Mosier, of Mosiertown, Cussewago Twp..
His obituary was published in the Crawford Journal on 20 Jun 1872. It states that his father came to Crawford Co. when John was 6 years old(1825-1826). At 14 years old, Gideon left his family to work in Meadville for Messrs. McFarland & Co. dry goods store, where he worked as a clerk for 10 years. In 1844 he formed a co-partnership with McFarland & Co. and opened a dry goods and variety store in Mosiertown. In 1850 the partnership was dissolved and Gideon remained in the business until the spring of 1862. He then returned to Meadville and became (1) cashier at the 1st National Bank and (2) President of the People's Savings Bank, until the time of his death. He left a widow and 6 children.
