Wesley Earl Zeigler was born on June 4, 1925 in Centrailia, Washington, and passed away at the age of 84 at home in Lake Isabella, Calif. He was a Lake Isabella resident for the past 29 years.
Wesley was a veteran of WWII, Korea and Viet Nam, serving in the U.S. Navy for 20 years. After his retirement from his military service Wesley went to work as an Electrician for Boeing/Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach, Calif., from where he retired after 14 years.
Over the years Wesley was involved with many community service projects including, organizing and running a free food programs for his church, served at the Senior Center food program. He enjoyed singing in the choir at church and was a Ham Radio operator for several years.
Wesley enjoyed bike riding and after suffering a stroke he became an avid rider to aid in his recovery. He had always dreamed of taking a long trip on a bicycle so he started training and eventually road his bike daily from Weldon to the Johnsondale Bridge and back, over 200 miles per week. In 1985, at the age of 60, after two and a half years of training Wesley made his bicycle trip from the Canadian border to the Mexican Border, over 1,700 miles.
His father, Clarence Zeigler; his mother, Mable Townsend Zeigler; and his grandson, Trevor, preceded Wesley in death. He is survived by his wife of nine years, Lucille Zeigler of Lake Isabella, Calif; daughter Elizabeth "Beth" and husband Mark Eisenhauer of Lake Isabella, and grandchildren Cody, Mark Jr., Brandon and Alyssa; daughter Kristine and husband Charles Clemmons of Lake Isabella, and grandchildren Sarah, Heather, Akyra, Ray, and Matt, and great granddaughter Zayla; daughter Debra Baker of Lake Isabella, and grandson Chad; Son Steve Perry and his wife Tammy, and grandchildren Tasha, Nick, Jason, Anna and Katie, and great grandchildren Taylor, Morgan, Kalayna, Aneicia, and Tristan.
Services will be held Thursday November 5, 2009 at 1:00 pm at the National Veteran's Cemetery off Hwy 58. Service entrusted to Mission Funeral Home. A Memorial service with potluck to follow will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2009 from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the VFW in Lake Isabella. The local Salvation Army to officiate.
