He was a construction worker until his retirement. He was a member of the Brussels American Legion.
Abe lived with a brother, Art, and a sister, Dolores, in Golden Eagle, Calhoun County, Illinois. Neither of them ever married. Art died in 1968 and Dolores passed away in 1972.
Abe married Mrs. Juanita Ruby (nee Cargill) Cain on 21 Mar 1981 in Brussels, Illinois. She was the daughter of Gordon Oscar Cargill and Nora Fay Murrell. Juanita's first husband was Jacob Earl Cain and they were married on 27 Oct 1941 in Yale, Paine County, Oklahoma. Jacob died in 1978.
At the time of his death at Jersey Community Hospital, Abe was 73 years, 4 months and 3 days old.
He was survived by his wife, Juanita; 3 step-sons of Alton, Illinois, Virginia and Laporte, Texas; 9 step-grandchildren; 14 step-great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Viola Navarre; and 3 brothers, Harold Eberlin of Batchtown, Illinois, Ed Eberlin of Alton, Illinois, and Charles Eberlin of Grafton, Illinois.
In addition to Art and Dolores, Abe was preceded in death by his parents; 2 more sisters, Lucille Vogel and Cathy Zahrli; and 3 more brothers, Richard, Art and Ray Eberlin.
Visitation was held on Valentine's Day 1994 at Hanks-Gubser Funeral Home in Brussels. A prayer service took place there at 6 p.m. that evening. A funeral Mass was conducted at 10 a.m. the following morning at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Brussels. Military rites were performed by the Brussels American Legion.
Abe's wife, Juanita, died in June of 1999 and was buried next to her first husband.
