Nils had immigrated to Chicago in 1910 to work as a trolley car operator in Chicago, saving up enough money to send for his wife, Alma Cornelia (née Berglund) Pålsson, and 4 children, Torburg Danria, 8, Paul Folke, 6, Stina Viola, 4, and Gosta Leonard, 2, all lost in the Titanic disaster on April 15, 1912. His family name was Pålsson in Sweden. He was a son of Påhl Jönsson and Christina Svensdotter.

He married another Swedish emigrant, Christina, in Chicago and moved to Culver in 1946, after his retirement. He and Christina resided at 605 Williams Street in Culver.

After his wife, Christina, died, he moved to Louisiana and lived with his 1st wife's nephew, Edwin Johnson, and his family. He died at St. Francis Hospital in Monroe, Louisiana.
