OBITUARY

Joseph J. Miller

Joseph J. Miller passed away at the Superior hospital Saturday morning March 8, 1941. He has been in poor health since 1935 but had only been confined to his bed for the past ten days.

He made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Harry Ballard since last October.

Mr. Miller came to Nebraska in February 1886 and settled on a farm three miles north west of Hardy. The farm now the home of J. L. Miller.

In the fall of 1912, he and Mrs. Miller moved to Hardy and lived for 3 years. They then moved to a farm a mile west of the old farm home which has since been his home.

He was born in Summerset (sic) County, Rockwood, Pa. July 11, 1857 and passed away at the age of 83 years 6 months 27 days.

He was united in marriage to Sarah Rhoads April 27, 1871 at Centerville, Pa. Mrs. Miller passed away January 23, 1939.

To this union 5 children were born Four of whom are left to cherish his memory: Mrs. Anna Shambaugh of Alma, Nebr., Jacob L. Miller, Milton D. Miller and Mrs. Myrtle Ballard of Hardy, Nebr.

One son, Charles, preceeded (sic) him in death in 1913.

There are 14 grand children and 6 great grand children.

Mr. Miller was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran church (sic) of Hardy, Nebr. He was a good father and husband and a kind neighbor who was devoted to his family He was a friend to all and will be greatly missed in the community.

Gone is the face we love so dear,
Silent is the voice we loved to hear,
Too far away for sight or speech,
But not too far for thought to reach,
Sweet to remember him who once was here,
And who, though absent, is just as dear.

Funeral services were held at the Lutheran church, Monday, March 10, 1941, with Rev. Davis of Paxton and Rev. Willis of Alburn in charge. Burial was made in the Hardy cemetery (sic).
