Obituary, September 27, 1941 in St. Hilaire newspaper: Mrs. Caroline Odegaard, resident of this section and community for well over fifty years, died at her home in the village shortly before noon Tuesday after a long illness. Mrs. Odegaard, nee Caroline Stene, was born in Lillehammar, Norway the 17th of February, 1861 and was 80 years and 7 months of age at time of her demise.
She came to the United States in 1885 and was located for a short time in Wisconsin before coming to Thief River Falls where she was united in marriage to Halvor Iverson in 1887. Mr. Iverson preceded his wife in death many years ago, as also did a son and daughter. In 1909 she was united in marriage to Ander Odegaard who died in 1932. Since that time, she resided at her home in the village. Mrs. Odegaard is survived by five sons, Iver in Rocksbury; Peter at Langdon, North Dakota; Lawrence in Texas; Ben and Casper of this village. She also is survived by a brother, Tobias Stene, or Smiley; and two sisters, Mrs. Ole Torkelson of Smiley and Mrs. Hannah McFee [sic] of Grand Forks, North Dakota; and by 19 grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2 p'clock at the Larson funeral chapel at Thief River Falls with Rev. A. O. Skibsrud officiating. Interment will be at Greenwood cemetery at Thief River Falls where other members of her family are buried.
From an Iverson Family history document: ?... She and Halvor first lived in a house where the Round House is now. Then they rented a log cabin east of the [Thief River Falls] airport where Iver and Peter were born in 1888. After Halvor?s death Caroline married a Peterson in 1908 [this date must be wrong as Lawrence was born in 1899] and they had another son, Lawrence. After Caroline was widowed, she was living on a place just east of St. Pauli Church, the second farm on the south side of the road. At this time, 1909, she married Ander Odegaard. They probably met at the church. This created quite a turmoil in the Odegaard-Berg families and the neighborhood, a lucky thing they all liked each other: Axel [Berg] and Ander Odegaard liked each other, according to Harley [Iverson].
One of Caroline?s hobbies was collecting post cards. She left a scrapbook containing many pretty cards from the years 1908-1911. Most of these were received from her nieces, nephews and sons. This was quite a fad at that time. In 1916, when Caroline?s daughter Mabel got sick and died, she took in her granddaughter Clara Iverson. They now lived on the Odegaard homestead which was two miles west of St. Pauli Church on the south side of the road. Caroline was buried in Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls, Minnesota by the big Stene gravestone near the road along with her parents (Peder and Beret Stene) and infant daughter Mabel.
