She died on her 16th birthday:
"Burns received by Miss Annie Melcher last Monday morning while at the home of A. MacDonald proved fatal and she succumbed at the City Hospital, yesterday. Her dress was ignited Monday from a bonfire in the yard, and before assistance could be rendered, received burns which proved fatal. Funeral services were held from the undertaking parlors of Otto Riebe at 9 o'clock this morning, Rev. O. Hartmann of St. John's Lutheran church officiating.
