Charlotte Hall Stone

Birth: Oct. 18, 1771
Berkshire County
Massachusetts, USA
Death: unknown

Charlotte Hall was born 18 October 1771, probably in Windsor, Massachusetts, the first child of 13 born to Asa and Abigail (Converse) Hall. She married Simon Stone circa 1791. She and Simon had the following eight children, recorded in Windsor, Massachusetts:

i. Nathan (1792-probably died young)
ii. Lyman (1793-1818)
iii. Orren (1795-1888)
iv. Ira (1797- )
v. Spencer (1799-1801)
vi. Melinda (1801- )
vii. Ward (1803-1829)
viii. Ashley (1805-1806)

They also had two more children in Windsor whose births were not recorded:

ix. Philander (c.1806-1890)
x. Almira (1811-1870)

After her husband died in 1818, Charlotte remained in Windsor until at least 1820 (census). Some time after that some of her children and some of her Hall relatives relocated to Monroe County, New York and from the Monroe County censuses it looks like Charlotte went with them, living in households headed by her sons, Philander (1830) and Ira (1840) in Riga, New York. She was mentioned and left property (a looking glass and a portion of his cash) in the will of her son, Ward Stone, who died in Riga, Monroe Co., NY in December 1829. But she was not listed as joining the Riga Congregational Church when her children did (c. 1831), and is not listed as leaving it when they were dismissed to transfer to nearby Churchville (c. 1832). Perhaps she was an invalid confined to her home during her last years.

We suspect she is buried at Creekside Cemetery in Churchville, as a stone which seems to be hers and says only "MOTHER" is included in the family plot of her son, Philander Stone (where her children, Ward and Almira, and Philander's family members are also buried). Neither the town nor the cemetery has been able to locate any record of her death or burial.
