James A. Nettleton, Sr., 88, of Lancaster, and formerly of Blackwood, NJ, met his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, October 29, 2009 at Lancaster Regional Medical Center.
Born June 26, 1921, in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Norman D. and Catherine (Rentschler) Nettleton. He was married to Elizabeth T. (Fink) Nettleton on September 16, 1945.
A Veteran of WWII, James proudly served with the U.S. Army Medical Corps in the European Theatre. A graduate of Haddonfield Memorial High School, he went on to graduate from the former Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science (now the Philadelphia University of Sciences) with a B.S. Degree in Pharmacy.
In 1950, Jim moved to Lancaster to work at Buch's Pharmacy and was there for over 20 years. He then went to Rea and Derrick Drug Store, later bought by Peoples and is now CVS. He retired from Red Rose Pharmacy.
He was a member of the former Memorial Presbyterian Church for many years, where he served both on the Board of Deacons and Board of Elders for several years. He was also a member of the Centerville Branch of the AARP, Lancaster County Pharmaceutical Association and the American Legion Post #34.
In addition to his wife, he will be lovingly missed by two sons, Attorney James A. Nettleton, Jr., husband of Susan, of Lancaster, Paul R. Nettleton, husband of Audrey, of Strasburg; a daughter, Diana M. Gramm, of Mountville; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; a brother, Norman D. Nettleton, of Charlottesville, VA; three sisters, Irene Switzer, of Ames, Iowa, C. Ruth Fry, of South Plainfield, NJ and Blanche Schwarz, of Austin, TX.
Funeral Services will be held at the Mountville Mennonite Church, 205 Froelich Avenue, Mountville, PA 17554, on Monday, November 2, 2009 at 2 PM with Pastor Keith W. Blank and Pastor Phil Shertzer officiating. Interment will be in the Millersville Mennonite Cemetery with Military Honors accorded by the Red Rose Veterans Honor Guard. Friends may view at the church on Monday between 1 and 2 PM. Flowers will be received at the church. Arrangements Entrusted to the Andrew T.
