Wilfred had Grey Eyes, Brown Hair and a Ruddy Complexion, he was only 5 foot 4 and 3/4 inches tall.

A former student at Spencerport High, SSG Luitweiler entered the regular Army in June 1936, and served three years before becoming a member of the Army Reserves. He was recalled in December 1940.


SSG Wilfred R. Luitweiler received his training at Camp Forrest, TN., Fort Niagara, NY., and Fort Dix, NJ. He was assigned to the 317th INF 80th INF DIV. He was "Killed in Action" in Autreville-Sur-Moselle France. While crossing the Moselle river, SSG Luitweiler stepped on a land mine. In doing so, his life was ended.
