Alvin R. Coombs Pioneer Citizen Died Today

Was the Father of a Large Family and Was an Upright Citizen

Healdsburg lost one of its pioneer citizens and a picturesque character of this community today, by the death of Alvin Root Coombs, who passed away at the family home, corner of Sherman and West streets.

Mr. Coombs was born in Missouri and was aged 88 years, 1 month and 5 days.

He came to Healdsburg many years ago, and up to recent years had followed his trade as a carpenter. He had enjoyed good health until recently, and could be seen almost daily walking about the streets or loitering in the warm sunshine of the seats of the plaza, where he found congenial companionship in the knot of old timbers who make the Plaza benches their forum.

He was twice married and was the father of a large family. In addition to his wife, Mary Coombs, who is still living, he is survived by the following grown children: Mrs. Lulu Anderson, Mrs. Kittie Bidwell, Mrs. Lenora McCord all of Healdsburg; Edward Coombs of Fresno, Hiram Coombs of Yuba City; Geary Coombs of Richmond; Mrs. Geneva Crow of Berkley; Mrs. Helen Smith of Geyserville, Mrs. Amanda McCoy of Lake County; Frank Coombs of Healdsburg, Calvin and Alvin Coombs of Fresno; Monroe Coombs of Sebastopol, and Mrs. Lizzie Pritchett of Healdsburg.
