Birth: May 2, 1877
Death: Jan. 6, 1966
Florida, USA

From the book "A Book of Remembrance of The Clouse Family Descendants of George Clouse, I" Compiled and Edited by Prietta Clouse Franklin:

"A brief note from the history of the Crawford family states that Bettie Duncan came from England. She was born in 1844 and died August 14, 1918. Bettie married a Searcy first. She had three daughters by him. They were: Mary who married George Crawford, her step-father's brother. Alice who married Washington McCaleb. Mrs. Henson, who was the compiler of the Crawford information, says that she has no information on the other daughter. Of course these three daughters were half-sisters to Andrew Jackson Crawford's children. She says that she was told that Bettie always retained the English custom of drinking tea. Andrew Jackson Crawford was a son of Solomon Knox Crawford and Susan M. Hackler. Solomon Knox Crawford was a son of George Crawford who came to America from Scotland. George had one daughter and three sons. The daughter died on board the ship and was buried at sea. The sons were: Solomon Knox, James and John. Solomon Knox Crawford married Susan M. Hackler or Hackley. they had six children, including Andrew Jackson who was the third child. Solomon Knox died and his widow Susan married James Crawford, her husband's brother. They had 8 children.

Nora died January 6, 1966 in Florida near the same time as the death of her husband. Sanford Greene Clouse may be remembered by some of this upper Cumberland area as a great singer and music teacher. He moved to Florida and reared his family there. I can remember him visiting my father when I was a small child. They were first cousins and near the same age. Again I quote Mrs. Henson, "I was told that the Crawford's settled first in Virginia, then moved to Kentucky. They later moved into Tennessee around the Gordonsville, Tennessee area. Andrew Jackson and Bettie Crawford are buried near Gordonsville. His homeplace is still standing near Hickman, Tennessee. And one of his descendants lives there. Quote Mrs. Henson, "I had the privilege of meeting Nora and her husband, Alva Greene Clause. He said that he came to the Crawford community to conduct a singing school. He said that Nora Crawford was as pretty as a doll. he siad that she was already promised to another, but he won her heart."
