The original spelling of the Petersen's name is Pedersen. Hans' father, Neils Pedersen, apparently changed the spelling of the family name when they came to America.

Hans Peter Petersen, 85, of 421 Vine St, Murray, died Monday at 12:35 pm in a Salt Lake hospital of complications resulting from a fractured hip.
He was born Sept 26, 1855, in Falstrupn, Denmark, and came to America five years later, settling in Holladay with his family.
In 1876 he served as one of the first L.D.S. missionaries to Arizona.
He married Mary Ann Drage, Nov 15, 1883 in the Salt Lake Endowment house and set up a home in Holladay, where he lived for 27 years. He and his family then moved to Oakley, Summit county, where they lived for 30 years, moving to Murray three years ago.
Mr. Petersen had been a farmer and stockman his entire life. He was a high priest in the Holladay L.D.S. ward at the time of his death.
He is survived by his widow; a son, William N. Petersen of Sugarhouse; six daughters, Mrs. W.B. Jamison of Murray, Mrs. Edith Walton of Blackfoot, Idaho; Mrs. Clara Evans of Oakley, Mrs. Erma Rasmussen of Salt Lake City, Mrs. Ada Brinkman of Foster, Minn., and Mrs. Myrtle Isakson of Peoa; five brothers, Joseph and Jacob Petersen of Holladay, Hyrum and Christian Petersen of Salt Lake City, and Alma Petersen of Oregon; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Snyder of Murray, Mrs. Betsey Capson of Blackfoot, and Mrs. Martha Matson of Murray; 50 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 1 pm in the Holladay L.D.S. ward chapel. Burial will be in Holladay Cemetery. Friends may call prior to services at 36 East 7th South.
