Sarah Bostwick was born in New Milford. She was the eldest daughter of Nathaniel Bostwick and Esther Weller Hitchcock. She married Sherman Boardman, also of New Milford, in that town on Dec 3, 1755. They had 7 children: Daniel b. 1757; David b. 1758; Hon. Elijah b. 1760; Esther b. 1762; Hon. Homer b. 1764; Orinda b. 1767 and Hon. David Sherman Boardman b. 1768. Her portrait was done in 1796 in New Milford by artist Ralph Earl.
