Famous inventor. He was among the earliest to make electric incandescent light bulbs. He received British Patent 10,919 on November 4, 1845. (The patent was in the name of his attorney / business agent Edward Augustin King. Starr's workshop assistant, William Mattieu Williams, stated that King had nothing to do with the invention in a technology sense, but did provide part of the financing.)
Before Starr left for England, his home was Cincinnati, Ohio.
