Ruth M. (Estabrook) Adams, 90, wife of the late C. Milfred Adams, passed from this life to meet her Lord, March 17, 2010. Born March 17, 1920, in Chapman, she was the daughter of Bruce and Velda (Akeley) Estabrook. Married in 1934, Ruth was one of four Estabrook sisters who married four Adams brothers. When all four couples had celebrated 50 years of marriage their story was featured in articles worldwide, including Time Magazine and although they were unable to accept, the people of Japan invited them to an all expenses paid trip to their country. Her life cannot be related accurately apart from 56 happy years of marriage and family life. She worked alongside Milfred on the farm, and when time permitted they enjoyed simple pleasures like leaf peeping and camping. Later she was employed at Eastern Maine Medical Center, Bangor, as a certified nurse's assistant. Ruth was a longtime member of Charleston Pentecostal Church where she taught Sunday school and in later life attended Deeper Life Assembly, Pittsfield, with her family.
She is survived by four children, Wayne A. and wife, Lois, of Kansas City, Mo., Marilyn M. Harlow and husband, Larry, of Sacramento, Calif., Lynden R. and wife, Gail, of Levant and Scott L. and Diane of Corinth; a daughter-in-law, Janice, widow of Donald M. Sr. of Pleasant Hill, Mo.; 14 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, several children she cared for as her own and who consider her Grammy; two sisters, Marion G. Adams of Glenburn and Norma E. Murray of Washington, Utah; numerous extended family members and friends.
In addition to her parents and her beloved husband, she was predeceased by two sons, Donald M. Adams Sr. and Alan C. Adams; a grandson, Michael W. Adams; two brothers, Sanford W. Estabrook and Clayton H. Estabrook; and three sisters, Lula E. Libby, Blanch I. Adams and Roxie M. Adams.
Graveside funeral services will be held at Corinthian Cemetery, Exeter Road, Corinth. (Bangor Daily News 3/19/2010)
