Funeral services for William "Everette" Godfrey, 76, of Yucca Valley, Calif., and a former Manitou resident, will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28, 2005, at the Gray Gish Funeral Home Chapel in Frederick with the Rev. Vernon Floyd, pastor of Bible Baptist Church, officiating.
Godfrey died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2005, at a nursing center in Yucca Valley. Burial will be at the Frederick Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Gray Gish Funeral Home.
He was born July 31, 1928, to Windle L. and Anna Mae (Arnold) Godfrey, in Canton, Ohio. He attended Thacker School in 1942 and graduated from Manitou High School in 1946. He served honorably in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1946 to 1948. He served in World War II and received the Good Conduct Medal. He then served honorably in the Navy, from 1948 to 1950. He was a member of Truitt Memorial Baptist Church since 1948 in Long Beach, Calif. In 1951 he joined the W.O.W. Lodge Camp 440 in Long Beach. In 1992 he received the Fraternal Order of Eagles-Aerie #4092 in Twenty Nine Palms, Calif. He was also a member of American Legion Post #469.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, George Stiebens; and brother, Richard Godfrey.
He is survived by a sister, Louise G. McDaniel and her husband Hoyt of Yucca Valley; and a half sister, Jo Ann Gays.
