Richard P. Bacon, 47, of San Diego, Calif., died Saturday evening at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla. He had been ill for several months.
He was born in Washington Courthouse, Ohio, June 16, 1928, a son of Philip E. and Hazel Stack Bacon. He attended London City Schools and graduated from Miami University in Oxford. During World War II he was with the US Army Air Corps and was stationed for some time in Washington, D.C. as an auditor.
Following military service he was associated for several years with International Business Machines (IBM) in San Diego. Until the time of his illness he was an instructor at San Diego State College. He was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church by the Sea, Pacific Beach, Calif., member of the choir and a vestryman in the church.
Survivors include his mother, Mrs. P.E. Bacon of London; borthers, Dr. William T. Bacon of London, Philip of Dayton, and John A. of Columbus; sisters, Mrs. Mary Lou Alexander of Columbus, and Mrs. Edward (Anne) Travis of Atlanta, Ga.
Memorial services will be Wednesday in St. Andrew's Church at Pacific Beach. Services for the family at the site of the grave will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Kirkwood Cemetery with Rev. Virgil Hamilton officiating. Interment will be under the direction of Chester R. Geer Funeral Home, London, Ohio.
