Artist. Regarded as a pioneer of feminist art, her work was an unapologetic statement against the pervasive abuse of power and male dominance. She drew from subject matters of historical events, such as the torture of women in Nicaragua, Jews in the Holocaust and the atrocities of the war. In 1966, she displayed her first significate piece of art titled "The War Series" in Paris France. The work remains one of the great, sustained protest art statements of all time and continues to be displayed at art galleries and museums world wide. Her other works included "Codex Artaud", "Persistent Vestiges: Drawing From the American-Vietnam War", "Cri du Coeur" and "Torture of Women" a 133-foot-long 14-panel, which illustrates institutional violence against women as a universal condition. In 2005, she received Lifetime Achievement Award from the College of Art Association and was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 2006. She died of heart failure.
