Jean C. Walter, 77, East Freedom, went home to be with the Lord Sunday at her residence. Although she lost her life to pancreatic cancer, she lived courageously throughout it for two years. She was born in Ashcom, Bedford County, daughter of the late Walter I. Miller and Jenny (Leasure) Long. After the death of her father, her mother married the late Earl Long. Jean married Paul Walter in Hagerstown, Md., June 11, 1949. Surviving are her husband of 60 years; three children: Vernon and wife, Cheryl, of East Freedom, Kathy Crilly and husband, Neil, of Bellefonte and Paula Stiffler and husband, David, of Marysville; four grandchildren: April Crozier and husband, Paul, Travis Crilly, Dustin Walter and Camryn Stiffler; and two brothers: Walter Miller of Gettysburg and John Miller of Cessna. Jean attended Roaring Spring High School, where she was a majorette. She retired from Saf-T-Bak, Altoona. She was a member of Berean Baptist Church, Duncansville. Jean enjoyed being with her family, spending time outdoors doing yard work and watching Penn State football and scary movies. She took great pride in maintaining a clean and tidy household. She enjoyed attending church and singing in the choir, especially the Christmas cantatas. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009, at Leslie-Miller Funeral Home, Claysburg, and 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009, at Berean Baptist Church, Pastor Barry Fry officiating. Interment at Claysburg Union Cemetery.
