Sculptor, Medalist. Born Antonius Stanislaus Nicolaas Ludovicus Dupuis, Toon Dupuis learned the tricks of the trade from his father, who was also a sculptor. He later studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, before moving to the Netherlands in 1898, where he became a lecturer at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. Dupuis was most well-known for his busts, but he also made statues and designed medals, tokens and coins. Most of his work is displayed in the Netherlands, but also include a bust of Petrus Stuyvesant in New York City and a statue of William the Silent in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Dupuis sculpted the statue on his grave himself, based on a design by his friend Co Brandes.
