John McCoy joined the 39th KY Infantry Volunteers. The date of enlistment is unknown. He was captured in 1863, & taken prisoner in VA . He was transferred to Annapolis General Hospital 6th April 1863, where he died. Severe anasarca is recorded as cause of death, which is a generalized condition of swelling usually caused by a severe infection.
