RALPH WINSHIP PASSES AWAY - 1931
Funeral rites for Ralph M. Winship were held Tuesday afternoon of this week at 2:00 at the home, 23 miles west of Opheim. The Rev. Joyce L. Ranum, pastor of the Lutheran church at Opheim, was in charge of the services. burial was made in the Thoeny cemetery.
Ralph Winship died at his farm home at 6:00 o'clock Monday morning of this week after an illness which began early this spring. On August 3rd, he was taken to the Deaconess hospital at Glasgow and on August 17th underwent an opreation. Cancer of the stomach was found to be the cause of his illness, but as nothing culd be done for him, he returned to his home, where he died, begin 41 years, 6 months and 14 days of age at the time of his passing.
Ralph Melvin winship, the son of Albion and Nellie Winship, was born in Cedar Falls, Wis., on March 23, 1890. In 1917 he moved with his parents to Montana, settling west of Opheim, where he has lived, except for a few years spent back east, ever since.
On October 14, 1919, he was united in marriage to Miss Emma Dorsey. To this happy union was born seven children, the oldest dying in infancy. the remaining children are Elnor, age 10; Lorna, age 8; Vernice, age 6; Ralph, Jr., age 4, and twin babies, Mary and Miles, 6 months old. Besides his beloved wife and family, he leaves to mourn his passing, his aged parents, who were living with him at the time of his death; one brother Earl of Opheim, and two sisters, Mrs. J.H. Madison and Mrs. F.H. Courteau, both of Bernard.
Mr. Winship was of a friendly nature and well liked by all. He was a most patient sufferer, never once during his long period of illness did he complain, but looked upon his suffering and approaching death as the will of the Lord. He had no fear of death as the Lord had given him time to confess his Saviour. After his operation he was baptized by Rev. Siqueland of Glasgow and remained strong in faith till the last.
