Joseph Ronald Phillips, 73, of Rockport, Texas, formerly of Cowden, died Nov. 2, 1999, in North Bay Hospital, Aransas Pass, Texas, of complications from diabetes.

Memorial services were held Nov. 9 at the Fulton Community Church, Fulton, Texas. Arrangements were by Charlie Marshall Funeral Homes and Crematory, Rockport. His body was cremated and interred with his parents in Mound Cemetery, Cowden.

He was born Dec. 15, 1925, in Midian, Kansas, the son of Jesse Joseph and Maude Eleanor Dimpel Phillips.

Surviving are sons, Joseph and Nicholas Phillips, both of Bend, Ore.; stepson, Calvin Knight of Bend; daughter, Cheri R. Swank and husband Mark of Santa Barbara, Calif.; sisters, Mona Breuer of Chircago, Norma L. Tipsword and husband James B. of Beecher City, Pat Hilliard and husband Jack of Taylorville; grandson, Zachary Phillips of Bend; and companion, Willie Belle Brown, Fulton.

Mr. Phillips attended Cowden High School and Sparks Business College, Shelbyville. He was in the real estate business after moving to the southwestern United States. He was a member of Fulton Community Church. He was a Marine veteran, serving in the Pacific theater during World War II.
