Our very special Maxine. She entered our lives as a stray about 2 or 3 years old and had obviously recently had puppies. I thought another creep dumped their pet and did who knows what with her pups. I remember vividly watching my son and his two friends playing with this super friendly stray on our front lawn. She can't stay here I said again and again. We already had two dogs--that's enough. But, Maxine wouldn't take no for an answer. She followed my son everywhere. He got in trouble with the schoolbus driver when Maxine tried to get on the bus with him. She parked herself on the front porch and decided that this was where she was going to call home. They gave her a blanket to lay on--she's not staying I said. They fed her everyday--stop feeding her I said - she's not staying here. I went out front everyday and talked to her. You can't stay here I told her. Go find somewhere else to live-- til, one day, I said oh alright come on in. She protected us, she played with us and made us laugh, she loved us and we loved her. She was with us a long time. Longer than any other dog we had. Then it came time to accept that she was suffering too much. Stricken with such severe arthritis. She could hardly move. She was obviously in pain, but never complained. It was time to say goodbye. We don't know exactly how old she was, but we do know that she was at least 17 years old. If it wasn't for the crippling painful arthritis she would still be with us. Maxine--the stray I said couldn't stay--if I could, I would have kept you here with us forever.

Maxine, you look so much like My Traci, who passed away some time ago. I really miss her. She was everything to me. You would have liked her, she was friendly to everyone and loved to play ball, go for walks, and rides in the car. She was my baby. If you ...(Read more)|
