He was born circa 1716 and was baptized September 23, 1716 in Rowley, Massachusetts. He was the son of George Dickinson and Martha Nelson
and the grandson of James Dickinson and his wife, Rebecca Stephenson. James of this memorial married Sarah Stickney on March 5, 1740 in Rowley
and they had 4 children all born in Rowley: Paul, Moses, Sarah, and James. Sarah Stickney was born March 31, 1719 in Rowley, Massachusetts.

Although his marker may not be legible anymore, Samuel Green in his book, Epitaphs From Old Burying Ground in Groton, Massachusetts @1878 (a Google online book), stated James' burial was in Section I and his inscription is given on page 26 as cited below. It is interesting that Mr. Green thought the marker said James Dickinson died at at age 69, when his birth in 1705 would make his age 49 instead. Perhaps the marker was hard to read even in 1878.
