|Birth: ||Oct. 12, 1844|
|Death: ||Jun. 13, 1913|
Son of David and Cleo Mably McIntire (according to one source. It should be noted that the spellings can also be found as Daniel Alanson McIntire and Chloe/Chloeer Mobley McIntire). Family researchers should use these names with some caution as variations abound.
First married to Sarah Sirdoreus and had (nine to eleven, depending on sources) children with her; married Sept. 11, 1870.
After the death of Sarah in 1892, he remarried to Anna Schaefer on April 13, 1894.
On June 13, 1913 John Schaefer was walking in downtown Fairfield at Court & Broadway streets when he was struck by a moving car that was slowly going through the downtown area. His injuries proved to be fatal, and a coroners inquest the following day with several eye-witnesses came up with the decision that the incident was just a tragic accident. The incident was described in graphic detail in the local newspaper; too graphic for inclusion here.
John, and subsequently his second wife Anna, were laid to rest in unmarked graves in the same plot as his first wife Sarah McIntire. The attached photo shows the approximate area in the foreground where they are buried.
