Charles Duval was born to Charles (Carl) Frederick Wilhelm Duval & Anna Schutte who were from France/Germany (during war time) and immigrating to America. He was born at sea while crossing the Atlantic Ocean, and various documents reflect that he was born either in Germany, At Sea or in Wisconsin.

Charles Duval, 67, died Saturday at his home, 544 State Rd.
He was born in 1856 at Cedarburg and came to Appleton in 1893. The survivors are his widow; four children, Edward, Spokane, Wash.; Charles, Marshfield; John R., Appleton; Frederick L., Providence, R.I.; one brother, Frederick, Milwaukee; two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Leidgen, Milwaukee; Mrs. Henry Young, Appleton.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon from Trinity English Lutheran church. The Rev. F. L. Schreckenberg will be in charge.
