A VETERAN OF TWO WARS
Passes Away To Answer the Last Roll Call
The sudden death of Mr. Lewis B. Thompson removes a devoted husband, a good citizen and a trusted and valuable artisan.
He arose about 5 o'clock yesterday morning at his home, 1013 Carrie Street to go to work at the Central railroad shops, but returned to the bed. When his wife came to call him to breakfast, she found him in a dying condition. A physician was called but Mr. Thompson died before he reached his side. Coroner Picquet impaneled a jury and the verdict was heart failure.
Mr. Thompson was 83 years of age and had fought bravely in the Confederate army and went through the Mexican war with the First South Carolina regiment.
He will be buried this morning from Asbury church at 10 o'clock. He leaves a wife and several devoted children to mourn his loss.
Deceased was an uncle of Mr. Jesse Thompson.
