Carson Man Dies

Otis Winfield Acker of Carson died August 19, 1995 at the Hood River
Care Center in Hood River. He was 89.

Mr. Acker was born October 29, 1905 in Washougal to Grace (Cottrell) and George W. Acker.

He was descended from two early Washougal families, and was born on the Acker farm in the same house and room as his father before him.

Mr. Acker married Nina M. Hall in 1923. They enjoyed the outdoors; camping, hiking and berry picking. They had four children and spent over 49 years together before her death in 1972.

He worked as an electrician, before his retirement, for his grandfather C.W. Cottrell and later for Northwestern Electric Co. The family lived at the company substation at North Bonneville during the dam construction.

In 1943, the family moved to their farm north of Carson, where they raised cattle. He also worked for Carson Lumber Co., first as a heavy equipment operator, and the many years as woods boss. He retired in 1972 and spent his retirement years raising sheep.

Mr. Acker served on the Carson-Stevenson School Board for a total of 27 years. He served on the Skamania County Cemetery Board and was a lifetime member and past master of the Masconic Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nina.
