Franklin D. "Gandhi" McClellan, 77, of Martinsville, died at 12:55 p.m. Thursday, September 28,1995 in the Burnsides Nursing Home, Marshall.

Funeral services were at 1:30 p.m. today, Monday, at the Martinsville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Arthur Woolley and the Rev. George Nika officiating. Burial was in the Ridgelawn Cemetery, Martinsville. Visitation was held Saturday afternoon at the Shaw Chapel, Burnsides Nursing Home, Sunday evening at Greenwell Funeral Home, Martinsville, and one hour prior to services today, Monday, at the church. A Masonic memorial service was held at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

He was born March 30, 1918 in Martinsville to Stewart and Grace Statler McClellan. He was married December 25,1944 to Jean Hartman. She died March 1,1978.

He was retired from the Illinois State Police and Martinsville Branch of the Bank of Casey. He was a member of the Martinsville United Methodist Church, Past Commander and long-time Adjutant of American Legion Post 515; life-time member of the Casey VFW; member of Clark Lodge 603 AF&AM; Casey Softball Hall of Fame; has served as president of Martinsville Lions Club, president of the Martinsville Chamber of Commerce, member of the Martinsville Volunteer Fire Department, local chairman of the Salvation Army, recognized by the University of Illinois Fighting Illini Football Team for years of service with the Illinois State Police at the Champaign football games, and was a original member of the Marathon basketball and softball teams.

Survivors include sons, Mike McClellan of Savoy, Marc McClellan of Casey, and David McClellan of Martinsville; long time friend, Margaret Turner of Marshall; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one grandchild, five brothers, and two sisters.
