John A. Foster

John A. Foster, an old resident of Warren county died at Arkansas City, Kan., April 3, 1893. He was born in S. Car. Nov 7, 1818. He came to Warren county when quite young, and resided here until the fall '88, when he removed to Kan. He was twice married; first to Martha J. Struthers and to them were born three daughters, and one son, the son dying in infancy. The daughters are Mrs Frank McClanahan of Mt Ayr, Ia,; Mrs. Martin McKee of Gerlaw; and Mrs Robert Hogue of Tingley, Ia. He was united in marriage the 2nd time to Mrs Rachel Rodgers Mitchell, who is left to mourn his loss. She has one son, Dr J. A. Mitchell, of Arkansas City, Kan. One sister, Mrs Jane McCrery of Gerlaw survivies him. Mr Foster had been an invalid for the past few years but his fatal illness was of but about ten days duration. He bore his afflictions with marked patience, and was often heard to say: "My blessings far outnumber my afflictions".
