Aldrich was a lawyer, moving to New York City in 1865 where he was later Co. solicitor, State bank examiner and founder and first secretary of Union Trust Company of NY. He was one of the organizers of the Republican Party and was a strong supporter of the Union throughout the Civil War, often appearing as a speaker in political campaigns.
