OLATHE-Verna Leotia Wood,age 91, of Olathe, died Sunday evening, May 7, 2000, in her home at Olathe (actually Pea Green). Verna Leotia Martin was born on Nov. 23, 1908, at Bowring, Okla., the daughter of Lee and Stella Martin.
Verna married Edmond Wood on Aug, 18, 1928 in Sedan, Kan., and they were the parents of six children. The Woods lived at Grainola, Okla., prior to moving to Montrose in 1952. Verna was employed as a cook at the Coal Creek School for several years before retiring in 1972.
In 1972, the Wood family moved to Sedan, Kan., where they remained until moving back to the Montrose and Olathe area in 1987.
After sharing over 60 worderful years of marriage, Verna was preceded in death by Edmond in 1990.
Verna loved growing beautiful flowers, crocheting, playing cards, sewing, and cooking, but most of all she loved and treasured spending time with her family.
Susvivors so very grateful to share Verna's life include two sons:Lee Wood, of Delta, Bernard Wood and wife Debbie, of Eckert; four daughters Hilda and husband Earl Miller, of Grand Junction; Mildred and husband Chuck Kelly, of Grainola, Okla., Mary and husband Jack Finnegan, of Pea Green; Jone and husband Don Wright, of Grand Junction, 18 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She is survived by to sisters. Graveside Services in loving remembrance and to honor Verna's life will be officiated on Wednesday May 10, at 10 a.m. in the Olathe Cemetery.
