Helen Lottie Donovan, 93, of Fergus Falls, formerly of Elizabeth, died Saturday, July 12, 2008, at Lake Region Hospital.

She was born Nov. 13, 1914, in Dora Township, the daughter of Herman and Martha (Stender) Harthun. Helen was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church of Dora Township and attended school District 129.

On Nov. 19, 1934, she married Lee Clapshaw and the couple resided near Dent before moving to Great Falls, Mont., where Helen was employed by the Columbus Hospital for 20 years. The couple returned to Minnesota and resided in Elizabeth. They were the parents of seven children, Marjorie, Betty, Joann, Sharon, Lola, LeRoy and Lorraine.

On Aug. 26, 1983, she married Maurice "Pat" Donovan at St. John's Lutheran Church of Elizabeth and they also renewed their wedding vows at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church.

She was living at River Bend Apartments where she had many precious friends.

She was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church and their Ladies Aid; the Elizabeth Senior Center and Homemaker's Club.

Hobbies included playing cards, bingo, watching "The Price Is Right," and square dancing. She loved to visit with family and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her first husband, Lee, and her second husband, Pat; three children, Sharon Sorlie, Betty Dalve and Lorraine Clapshaw at four years old; two sisters, Luella Plessel and Olga Hazelwood; five brothers, Andrew, Paul, Vernon, Herman and George Harthun; a daughter-in-law, Dana Clapshaw; and two sons-in-law, Ron Sorlie and Ed Mertens.

Her family includes four children, Marjorie Mertens of Vancouver, Wash., Joann (Ted) Jones of Fergus Falls, Lola (Don) Formentini of Fallen, Nev., and LeRoy Clapshaw of Great Falls, Mont.; 27 grandchildren; and 51 great-grandchildren; 37 great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Adeline Abbott of Dent, Ilene Sagemo of Detroit Lakes and Marian Zimmerman of Fergus Falls; a sister-in-law, Meg Harthun of Dent; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins; and a host of friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Stroke Association.

Visitation: Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to services at the church

Service: 1 p.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church of Elizabeth
