"Sellers the Moving Man." William Porter Sellers Sr. was the son of Benjamin Thomas Sellers and Anna Jane Swift. He was born in South Carolina on Newport Plantation in 1857. He was chairman of the board of trustees and a member of the board of stewards of Trinity Methodist Church in Charleston. For many years, William Porter Sellers Sr. advertised himself as "Sellers the Moving Man." In 1903, while working for a local furniture store, he founded what would become Sellers Transfer Company, a moving and storage business in Charleston. He was a successful businessman and furniture salesman for many years and was well-esteemed in the community.
He was survived by his wife, Septima Natalie Mahony and his nine children, William Porter Sellers Jr.; Gladys Naomi Sellers; Arthur Raymond Sellers Sr.; Greaton Wesley Sellers Sr.; Caroline Sellers Califf; Alice Sellers Sherwood; Elenora Irene Septima Natalie Sellers Smith ("Ellex"); James Nelson Sellers Sr.; and Robert Benjamin Sellers
