Curtis Roper, 70, of Amarillo died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2006.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of
Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40, with Sean Robinson, pastor, and Ralph Harmon,
both of Seventh-day Adventist Church of Amarillo, officiating. Burial will be
in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Roper was born July 20, 1936, in rural Slaton to Clyde and Lucille Roper.
He served 3 years in the U.S. Marine Corps and 17 years in the U.S. Air Force
and retired in 1974. He worked for the Department of Energy at the Pantex
plant for 23 years and retired in 1997.
Mr. Roper loved to travel and meet people. He loved Hawaii, and most of all he
loved the Lord, his family and his church, where he served as an elder.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Wanda Fay Barnes; and a
brother, Charles Roper.
Survivors include his wife, Jackie Slaughter Roper; a son, Rickey Roper of
Amarillo; a daughter, Cheryl Barnes of Amarillo; a granddaughter, Tiffany Genn
of Amarillo; three great-grandsons; a sister, Edna Crawford of Amarillo; and a
half brother, Dayton Hancock of Amarillo.
The family suggests memorials be to Seventh-day Adventist Church Building
Fund, P.O. Box 30398, Amarillo, TX 79120.
