Robert E. Butler
Robert E. "Red" Butler, 78, of Tallahassee and formerly of Bardin, died Wednesday, November 19, 2003 at the Heritage Health Care Center in Tallahassee following an extended illness.
He was a native of Nashville, Tenn. Coming from Miami, he had lived in Bardin for 15 years before moving to Tallahassee. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and had served on the original U.S.S. Enterprise. He retired as a welder from Eastern Airlines in Miami in 1986 after 20 years of service. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed gardening. He was a Baptist.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Barbara Butler; one sister: Mable Ford; and one brother: Roy Butler.
He is survived by three sons: William Butler, Palm Coast; Thomas Butler, Talbotton, Ga.; and Alan Butler, Bunnell; one daughter: Tina Webb, Tallahassee; one brother: Oscar Butler, Hixson, Tenn.; one sister: Martha Gamble, Madison, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandsons.
Flowers are gratefully accepted or memorial gifts may be sent to Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Boulevard, Tallahassee, FL 32308.
Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Friday (today), Nov. 21 at the Masters Funeral Home of Palatka.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 22 at the funeral home with the Rev. Steve Swaringen officiating.
Burial will follow in the Palatka Memorial Gardens with military honors bestowed by the U.S. Navy.
Masters Funeral Home of Palatka is in charge of arrangements.
