GLEN BIRDSELL

Services were held for Glen Birdsell, age 92, on May 20, 1996 at the First Presbyterian Church in Spirit Lake. Officiating the service was Rev. Walter Hamer, and Darwin Bears, eulogy. Providing the music was Wilma Clauson, organist, Chris Koehler, soloist, and Shirley Arneson, accompanist. Pallbearers were Darren Johnson, Jason Johnson, Dana Johnson, Steve Gazada, Bob Mann and Dan Drecszcn

Glen M. Birdsell was born to Oscar and Mary (Coffield) Birdsell on April 11, 1904 in Jewell County, Kansas. He moved to this area in 1929. On March 6, 1931 he was united in marriage to Thelma Stetzel at Ames. They farmed in Jackson County, Minn., and then moved to farm northeast of Spirit Lake in 1943. In 1966 they moved to their lake home in Steven's Cove on Big Spirit Lake.

Glen was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Spirit Lake and the Golden K. He was well known for his musical ability with the harmonica and his love of roses. Glen's family was special to him. He was a bowler for many years.

He passed away on May 15, 1996 at the Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.

Surviving are his wife, Thelma; daughters, Phyllis and husband Cleo Johnson of Jackson, Minn., Shcri and special friend Bill Kolling of Des Moines; grandchildren, Dana Johnson of Bcllevuc, Neb., Kyle Johnson of Lakefield, Minn., Darren Johnson, Jackson, Minn., and Darce Gazda of Jackson; great grandchildren, Ja.son, Justin, Sheila, Lindsey, Kaylee, Tawanna, DeWayne and Danielle Johnson and Cami, Cara, and Kendra, Gazda.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Oscar and Roscoe Birdsell, and sister, Leona Topliff.

Interment was in Lakeview Cemetery in Spirit Lake with Turner Funeral Home of Spirit Lake was in charge of arrangements.
