Seventy-five Descendants Survive Argentine District Pioneer Who Lived Here 55 Years.
Mrs. Mary E. Brown, 81 years old, who had lived in Wyandotte county fifty-five years, died last night at her home, Forty-second street and Wyandotte avenue. She leaves seventy-five descendants, ten children, thirty-two grandchildren; twenty-eight great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
Mrs. Brown was born on St. Valentine's day, 1853, in Caswell county, Virginia. Her maiden name was Mary E. Ball. Fifty-five years ago she and her husband, the late Clinton Brown, and their two small children moved to a farm west of Argentine. Mr. and Mrs. Brown were the parents of twelve children. A daughter died when a child and another daughter, Mrs. Sarah Despain, died August 8 of last year. Mr. Brown died in 1923.
She was a member of the Metropolitan Avenue Methodist Episcopal church.
The past thirty-five years Mrs. Brown had been confined to her bed with inflammatory rheumatism.
Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Belle Payne, 1503 South Fortieth street; Mrs. Emily Glass, 1513 South Fortieth street; Mrs. Alice Porter, 1526 South Fortieth street; Mrs. Lena Reynolds, 1216 South Thirty-ninth street; Mrs. Hazel Bierman, Shawnee, Kan.; and five sons, Joseph Brown, of the home; George Brown, 1604 South Forty-second street; Roy Brown, Belton, Mo.; Harry Brown, Forty-second street and Wyandotte avenue, and Clifford Brown, 1608 South Forty-second street.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon at the home. Burial will be in Maple Hill cemetery. The body will lie in state at the home.
