Daughter of Arthur Berkeley and Mary Ann MORTON nee GERATY

Married 04 Jan 1940
PRESTON—MORTON - BRIDE IN MAGNOLIA SATIN
A wedding of interest was celebrated at the Church of St. John the Baptist, Te Puke, on Thursday, January 4, when Miss Mamie Elizabeth Morton, fourth, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Morton, of Tauranga. was married to Mr. Hughen Harold Preston, second son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Preston, of Pongakawa. Canon Rawle officiated, and Miss Smith was the organist. The bride, who was given away by her father, looked really charming, in a gown of magnolia satin, cut on classical lines, with heart shaped neck, the bodice being softly shirred, and finished with small buttons. Her tulle veil fell over the train of her frock, and she wore a pearl necklace and carried a beautiful bouquet of cream water-lilies. The bride was attended by her sister Miss Lorraine Morton, of Auckland, who wore an early Victorian gown of lavender stiffened net, trimmed with ribbon rows, and applique in pastel shades. Her head-dress was a lavender net veil with a topknot of orchids, and her bouquet a sheaf of delphiniums and fuchsia. Two small nieces of the bride Barbara Linden and Margaret McEldowney, were flower girls, dressed alike in Victorian frocks of deeper lavender georgette, with circlets of net and flowers in their hair, and carrying posies in shades of cyclamen and lavender with ribbon' to tone. Mr. Grahame Porritt of Cambridge was best man. The reception was held in the pretty garden at the home of Mr. and Mrs. R. McEldowney, where Mrs. Morton received her guests wearing a black frock relieved with petrel blue, and a hat to tone, her bouquet being of shaded blue and mauve flowers.
Mrs. Preston, mother of the bridegroom. wore a black ensemble and carried a bouquet of scarlet sweet peas. Mr. R. Parsons was toast-master. Mr. Ken Bennett proposed toast of the happy couple, that of the bride's parents was proposed by Mr. Kenneth Morton of Katikati, great uncle of the bride, and the bridegroom's parents by Mr. Keam of Welcome Bay. Mr. and Mrs. Preston left later for Whangarei, the bride travelling in a two-piece suit and hat of cyclamen with clover accessories. BAY OF PLENTY TIMES, 10 JANUARY 1940, PAGE 4

Mrs. H. H. Preston
News was received from Te Puke this afternoon that Mrs Mamie Preston, wife of Mr Harold Hughan Preston, had passed away after a long illness. The daughter of Mr Morton, a well known agriculturist, of the Bay of Plenty, Mrs Preston resided at Te Puke as a girl and was employed at the local branch of the Farmers' Trading Company. There she met Mr Preston, who was farming in the district, and, shortly after his appointment as supervisor of the Northland District Pig Council, they were married and took up residence in Whangarei. Although she was not known to many people locally, Mrs Preston won enduring friendships by the charm of her manner. When her health deteriorated she was cared for by her relatives at Te Puke, where Mr Preston was hurriedly summoned last week. There is a daughter aged 13 months. The funeral will be held at Tauranga on Saturday. NORTHERN ADVOCATE, 12 NOVEMBER 1943, PAGE 4
